Tennis elbow (also known as lateral epicondylitis) is an inflammation of the tendons on the outside of the elbow, causing pain, swelling and limited mobility or strength. In many instances however, pain in this area has another cause. It is common for dysfunction in the neck/shoulder complex to refer pain to the arm. Forward head posture, rounded shoulders, and the muscular tightness that results, can cause herniated/bulging discs, or just refer pain to the arm, mimicking classical signs of Tennis Elbow. Myofascial release practitioners are taught to think of the body as a whole, instead of just focusing on the painful area.
