As your car ages, its parts begin to wear out and cause problems to your vehicle. When it does, your vehicle becomes less mobile and safe to drive. But did you know, just like the moving parts in your car, the parts that make up your spine can age and create problems too. If you start to feel any unusual pain or stiffness from your spine, you may be experiencing Spondylosis. If you are seeking treatment for Spondylosis on Long Island, look no further. Our team at Hands On Physical Therapy will assess the issue and take appropriate action.
What Causes Spondylosis?
The spine is a complex curved organ that gives the body the support and structure it needs while protecting almost all your main nervous system. It is made up of three parts known as cervical, thoracic, and lumber, consisting of 24 bones known as the vertebrae and between them are facet joints.
What separates these vertebrae are a rubbery tissue called intervertebral discs which cushions the spinal bones from any impact, allowing for smooth movements.
As you age, the disc becomes harder, thinner, and dryer, losing its cushion ability. The facet joints become less functional. The bones begin to rub against each other, causing friction and forming bone spurs.
As the spines ages, so do its parts. Spondylosis differs from person to person but the risk factors include.
