Plantar Fasciitis

Plantar Fasciitis

Plantar Fasciitis is an inflammation of the tendon/fascia between the heel and ball of the foot.  The tendon also tightens up, creating pain as it pulls on the heel, especially when standing or walking. The pull can be so strong that a portion of the bone recedes, creating a spur that can be seen on X-ray. The remedy involves releasing/stretching the tissue. Sometimes the tendon/fascia itself can be released, but more often, there’s something further up influencing the tightness. Overtight calf muscles, a mal-aligned pelvis, or even a lumbar disc problem can all influence the plantar fascia/tendon, which are often overlooked. A myofascial release trained physical therapist is especially equipped to discover these other causes, allowing treatment to address the root of the problem.
